Did any of us ever enjoy meetings?
by stephanie61092 inthis is a legitimate question.
did any of us ever find real joy in being at the meetings?
did any of us ever finish a meeting and think "i feel so enriched"?

I never enjoyed the meetings the way others claimed to, however I believed I should enjoy them and felt guilty for it. -

jw family loves to ask df'd ones for money!
by Ghiagirl inwell it finally happened!
we have been waiting about a year for this, my dfd husbands family asked us for money.
even though his own father hasn't met our 8 month old son.

Maybe you could suggest to your husband that although you are all for helping family, you'd first like to see them complete a JW style, six month probationary period where they demonstrate by their actions towards the two of you, that they are worthy of your help. -

The printing era of the WBTS is nearing it's end. It's all about electronic and broadcasts from now on. That's why all the layoffs and selling-off of properties.
Seems that way to me as well but I'm puzzled as to why, if this is so, they need that huge new complex in New York with all it's residence quarters. Why do they still need so many people there ??
Even when I was a Bethelite decades ago, it seemed like most of the people who were at Bethel, were there to support the staff at Bethel and to maintain the buildings they need for them to live in. It's as if they've created a way for others to support them in their fantasy world rather than have to go out and take care of themselves.

Jehovah's Witness Teens 13 and 10 Commit Suicide in Wisconsin
by Tenacious ini found the following story while researching the jw mindset and subsequent behavior due to their weekly exposure to mind control techniques.
the story is a bit old but it does speak volumes in terms of the mental anguish the average jw teen must endure as a jw.
links to website and original newspaper follow:.

Just when you think you've heard it all.....
Anyone who has ever attended or visited a Kingdom Hall in a remote area can understand how this could happen.
Locked into an isolated life that revolves around a controlling "end time's" religion headed by poorly educated narrow minded men, must be a living hell for the women and young people who are at their mercy. A married man who doesn't fit or like his circumstances can pick up and leave if he decides to. A married Woman and her children would be stuck in a life that they might not survive or ever recover from, especially if the husband liked the control and power that was granted to him by his religion and thereby God.

The trolleys haven't been around that long, did they have the larger books on them in the beginning?
If so, it could be that they found that people aren't as likely to take a book in passing but might be inclined to grab a brochure....not as much of a commitment. Also the brochures are lighter for the person wielding the cart around and they are more to the point and specific and people may be more inclined to read them at a glance rather than put them aside as one might do with a book. They could be saving the books for later if and when they are truly interested.

Fading is never 100% successful is it?
by nicolaou inmum phoned last night to see how we all are.
after fifteen years away from meetings and my old jw life you'd think my fade could be called 'successful' and for the most part it is.
.. my resentment at being lied to and having wasted over thirty years of my life has left me like a glass of water full to the brim, it only takes a tap to make a mess.

You may have been arguing about the dog but it wasn't really the dog your were arguing about.
The fact that she won't allow your to decide for yourself something as basic as how you view your own pet, shows how rigid her thinking is and how accustomed she must be with forcing her rigid ways on others. Wonder where she could have picked up a nasty little habit like that ?
With my family I've found it best to casually and quickly put an end to the conversation as soon as they go anywhere that I don't want to go. Without me having to become the bad guy, they've gotten the hint that they have to stay within certain boundaries if they want me to talk to me.
Mum: You shouldn't call rover a part of the family...Rover isn't part of the family and I'm certainly not related to any Dog!!
You: Ok yeah well anyway Mum....good to hear from you....gotta' run....keep in touch bye bye (click)

Conversation with JW mom on this years memorial date and Nissan 14 discrepancy.
by Question_Mans_interpretation ini'm having an ongoing texting conversation with my mom right now on the march 23rd memorial date.
she completely goes into cult mode.. me: why is the memorial on march 23rd this year and not april 22nd/23rd when the corresponding nissan 14 commences?
since when did the organization stop following the jewish calendar for passover?.

Think what you want. I love Jehovah and his son Jesus and the important thing is that we observe what he commanded us to do and what he did for us. You are just looking for faults. We all have them. If this organization is not being used by Jehovah, it will fail. Will it not?Hmm how to respond to this last one?
There are plenty of religions that JW's view as false and not being backed by Jehovah. They have not failed in fact many have been around for centuries and have a world wide membership greater than Jehovah's Witnesses. So success or failure of a religion is not positive proof that they are being backed by God.
The Society has always stressed how Jehovah is a God of order and that our worship must be exacting so why is it "fault finding" to try and understand why this years Memorial is a Month ahead of when it is typically observed? If you don't know or don't even care to find out just say so but don't get annoyed at me. If someone you met at the door asked you the same question, you'd be scrambling to get them an answer instead of accusing them of "fault finding" .

Actively Fading and The Memorial
by All for show inthose of you fading- with the memorial approaching are you going to appease family?
not going and making up an excuse?
acting like your going but not really?.
-
Pete Zahut
Do you expect someone to actually ask you directly if you attended the memorial ?
If so, I wouldn't give them power to make you stoop to lying.
I think if I were asked directly and I was planning on fading and not seeing them anymore anyway, I'd pause and then say:
Them: So...did you even attend the Memorial this year ??
Me: (smiling) " Don't get me wrong but I'm just sort of curious as to why you would ask me that?"
Them: Oh....I didn't see you at ours so I figured you didn't go or maybe went to one somewhere else?
Me: Oh...Ok I guess that makes sense, (chuckle) for a minute there it was almost as if you were checking up on me.
Them: So....did you?
Me: Pfft... have you ever known me to miss a Memorial?
Them: What Hall did you go to?
Me: (over your shoulder with a wink as you walk away ) Ha !...you're really too much sometimes.

Vomit inducing JW Broadcasting Music Video
by sieborg insorry in advance if you have.

do not know how to put in a direct link.

As per usual, these videos and the photos they show in the publications, are a bit too "on the nose" to be taken seriously (except by the oddballs) and often induce annoyance on the part of those who they are directed at (typically young people).
Any JW having difficulty finding someone of their own, would likely feel worse after seeing this, rather than want to continue holding on in the hope that Miss or Mr Right will be found among the ranks of those mopping up after the assembly. They may even feel embarrassed, knowing that others may view them as being the local "sad single person with no immediate prospects".
Unless things have changed drastically, most young JW's inwardly find this stuff cringeworthy.
